10 July 2010 - Mumbai Fragrance
Few Decades ago Mumbai had seven islands, due to urbanization and flow of people from villages and out of Maharashtra for their livelihood, employment and support to the fast development of Mumbai city, the space between two islands are being filled up with garbage and debris without reallzing the impact of these wastes and natural flow of water into Arabian sea. These seven islands has become one huge surface of Mumbai city with narrow nallas into the sea. The garbage and debris of all these years which has formed ground for construction of buildings by pile foundation. Fortunately these buildings are standing on these garbage without major structural impact. However, the garbage react its own with the nature and emit pollutants like Hydrocarbons, Sulphurous compounds which gives a pungent odour, can be called holistically "Mumbai Fragrance". Even a blind man can realize his entry to Mumbai.

Today there are many scientific evidences in some of the garbage dumps like Mindspace, Malad, Deonar dump, Mulund dump, Gorai dump etc. The article of Mr Ajit Ranade in Mumbai Mirror on July 10, 2010 also reflects the same.
